Xiangiu Deng arrived in New Zealand on May 13, 2019, and never left. She appeared in the Dunedin District Court before Judge David Robinson on Thursday. The court heard, via an interpreter, Deng had not paid attention to her visa, which expired three months after entry, on August 13, 2019.

Police have seized $20,000 worth of methamphetamine and $42,000 in cash after search warrants were carried out in Invercargill and Dunedin.

The warrants were carried out this week with four vehicles and a firearm also seized.
Detective Senior Sergeant Rob Hanna said the search warrants followed the arrest of four people in Waihola after the occupants of an alleged stolen car left a crash scene earlier this week.
They were later located with help from the Armed Offenders Squad.
Two further arrests were made yesterday as a result of the search warrants.

A Dundas St flat, in Dunedin s student quarter, was raided by officials on Tuesday.
Police and Immigration New Zealand (INZ) officials raided a Dunedin flat and arrested a woman for allegedly being in New Zealand unlawfully. The Dundas St home, in the heart of the city s student quarter, was raided by officials on Tuesday afternoon. Immigration New Zealand (INZ) verification and compliance general manager Geoff Scott said a person had been taken into custody after being found to be in New Zealand unlawfully.
