Officials suspect fentanyl is increasing Trumbull overdoses | News, Sports, Jobs

WARREN Trumbull County is experiencing an increase in overdose deaths fueled by the soaring availability of the drug fentanyl, according to local health officials. According to data provided by the Trumbull County Coroner’s Office, as of February 26, there have been 25 confirmed overdose deaths and 10 unconfirmed overdose deaths in Trumbull County. The unconfirmed overdoses are pending toxicology results. For comparison, as of February 26 in 2017 (the year with the most overdoses on record), there were 12 overdose deaths; in 2018, there were 10 overdose deaths; in 2019, there were 19 overdose deaths; and in 2020, there were eight overdose deaths. All but one of the confirmed overdoses involved fentanyl, statistics show.

The state on Saturday exceeded two COVID-19 milestones: more than 4 million people who have at least started the vaccination process and more than 2.5 million fully vaccinated. The Ohio Department of Health numbers show that almost 22 percent of the state has been fully vaccinated, with about 35 percent starting the process as of Saturday. Those numbers were 2,554,361 and 4,056,758, respectively. The numbers include 72,014 getting their first vaccine in the previous 24 hours. In Mahoning County, 35.64 percent of the population (81,492 people) had received at least one dose with 33.86 percent of the population in Trumbull County (67,030 people) and 29.11 percent in Columbiana County (29,662 people) receiving at least the first dose as of 6 a.m. Saturday, according to the ODH.

Mike DeWine saying the state is “moving in the wrong direction.” The 3,985,578 people who at least had started the vaccination process as of 6 a.m. Friday is 34.1 percent of the state’s population, according to the ODH. It includes 75,534 starting the process in the previous 24 hours.
