Worthington Kilbourne student starts petition to restore school resource officers Kilbourne senior Luke Brown started the change.org petition addressed to the school board, Superintendent Trent Bowers and Kilbourne principal Aric Thomas with the hopes that the reinstatement of the SRO program will be considered. The petition had 186 signatures as of July 6, with a goal of hitting 200. Brown said those signatures consist of mostly Kilbourne and Thomas Worthington High School students. “The removal of our SROs had no just-basis and was fueled by the negative image surrounding police during these times,” the petition reads.” As a senior in the Worthington School District, I have seen first hand the result of SROs being removed.”

Worthington high schools in-person commencements slated May 24 and 25 ThisWeek group After a year in which they watched senior classes graduate online due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, seniors at Thomas Worthington and Worthington Kilbourne high schools will return to the stage May 24 and 25. The Thomas and Kilbourne classes of 2021 will receive their diplomas during in-person commencement ceremonies May 24 and 25, respectively, at the Jerome Schottenstein Center on the Ohio State University campus. The ceremonies mark a return to normalcy for the most part, according to Worthington Schools superintendent Trent Bowers. A four-guest limit per student still will be in place, however.

Worthington Schools Roundup: Perry/Phoenix renovation completion expected by August ThisWeek group Perry Middle School, which was closed in 2010 in a cost-saving move and converted to accommodate the Phoenix Middle School program, is undergoing renovations that are expected to be completed by August. The school, which has been repurposed as Phoenix Middle School, is expected to open in August for the 2021-22 school year, according to Jeff Eble, Worthington Schools director of business services. “Our goal is to be finished and out by Aug. 1,” Eble said. “We might have a little bit of site work outside we have to finish.”
