Police confirmed that a man, 30, had been charged with driving offences and resisting arrest after a pursuit on Sunday night. Police said about 10.40pm on Sunday, December 28, officers from Tweed/Byron Proactive Crime Team were conducting patrols of the Chinderah area when they saw a Queensland-registered silver Hyundai Getz turn right onto Chinderah Rd. Checks revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen. Police activated their warning lights and sirens directing the driver to stop. Instead the driver allegedly accelerated away, and a pursuit was initiated.

Subscriber only A North Coast teenager who continued to breach court orders and commit further offences has spent a month and a half behind bars. Oskar-Del Kara Tamaira Muirhead appeared by videolink from custody in Tweed Heads Local Court on December 21. The Bilambil Heights teenager pleaded guilty to charges including two counts of shoplifting, steal and break out and behaving in an offensive manner. Court documents revealed the 19-year-old entered City Beach in Tweed City Shopping Centre and was stopped by an employee outside the shop with a stolen bucket hat and women s socks worth about $100 on August 5.

Subscriber only A man accused of injuring his neighbour in a street brawl allegedly involving a knife and hatchet hasn t been in contact with his lawyer, a court heard. The case against Kevin Benjamin Norman, represented by defence solicitor Riley Owen, went before Tweed Heads Local Court on December 21. Mr Norman has previously entered pleas of not guilty to malicious wounding and affray. Police will allege the 34-year-old approached his 31-year-old neighbour who was standing on his front porch stairs in Yale St, Kingscliff about 4.30pm on October 30. They will allege an argument began between the two men and Mr Norman pulled a small black-handled folding knife from his shorts pocket.
