Another roadblock for major Kingscliff development? – The Echo

Haul route from Tweed Coast Road to Turnock Street, Kingscliff. A rescission motion for the approval of the construction of a haul route in west Kingscliff by Gales Holdings (DA20/086) that is designed to facilitate bringing in fill from the M1 upgrade was hotly debated at last Thursday’s Tweed Shire Council meeting with confusion over what the DA was and wasn’t approving.  Councillor Ron Cooper (Independent) raised issues for Kingscliff residents in relation to the ‘90,000 truck and trailer movements’ that the bringing in of fill to the development site rather than using sand from the site would have. He told the meeting that approval of the development application (DA) ‘didn’t consider the potential long-term damage to our roads, [impacts on] our amenity, our health, and our tourist industry’.

Green light for Tweed leg of Northern Rivers Rail Trail

Tweed Shire Council A tender has been awarded for the Tweed leg of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail. The next step in the Tweed leg of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail will move forward after Councillors voted overnight to award an $11.8 million contract to one of 4 preferred tenderers. Councillors agreed to support the recommendation of Council officers to award the contract to a complying tender bid from Hazell Bros (Qld) Pty Ltd following a rigorous tendering process. The decision was made in a confidential hearing following legal advice that was sought after a threat of legal action by a third party group. Opponents had called for the rail trail to be built off-formation – or alongside the existing track infrastructure.
