Airtel Africa has denied reports that it plans to halt operations in Kenya. The rumours were reported by
Techweez after Prasanta Das Sarmato, CEO of Airtel Kenya, assessed the viability of the company after The National ICT Policy 2019 was signed.
“Equity Participation, a clause in the policy states that only companies with at least 30% substantive Kenyan ownership, either corporate or individual will be licensed to provide ICT services.”
The telco, however, has said that it would not be leaving the Kenyan market – “we remain committed to delivering quality and value for money products and services to all our customers whilst ensuring effective, uninterrupted communication is achieved across the entire country.”

The regulations, which are part of Data Protection Act that was signed by President Uhuru Kenyatta in November 2019, set out restrictions on how personally identifiable data obtained by firms and government entities can be handled, stored and shared.
Data processors or controllers will pay a certification fee of Sh250,000.
Businesses will also be charged registration and annual renewal fees of between Sh1,000 and Sh20,000 depending on the number of employees, turnover and the risk of exposure of personal information.

Mt Kenya TV has come under condemnation from a section of Kenyans for airing obscene content on a children s program.
Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) CEO Ezekiel Mutua on Wednesday evening, April 21, indicated that the board had received numerous complaints on the matter and vowed that disciplinary action would be taken. It should be noted that although the program has been pulled down, the violation has already been committed as the content had not been submitted to the Board for examination and classification in line with the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222 of the laws of Kenya, reads a statement in part.
