Surfers Paradise swimmer goes missing after going for midnight swim at Gold Coast beach

The group-of-three entered the waters at the Esplanade in Surfer s Paradise, Queensland, at 2.30am on Sunday. Two of the people returned to the shore before realising their friend was missing. A swimmer remains missing after a group of friends decided to take a midnight swim at one of Australia s most popular beaches (pictured, emergency services at Surfers Paradise on Sunday) The pair called emergency services and a search and rescue team has been deployed to search for the man.  Water police, Volunteer Marine Rescue and Rescue 500 are still continuing their search.   Paramedics were also called to the scene and they treated one man for his injuries.

Baby left critical after swallowing ice in unit

Crime by Jacob Miley Premium Content   A BABY boy was critically injured after ingesting a significant amount of the drug ice during a visit to a Glitter Strip unit complex with his mother, police allege. Detectives from the Gold Coast Child Protection Investigation Unit on Wednesday charged the 20-year-old mum after a month-long investigation. Police will allege the woman visited a Hamilton Ave unit complex at Surfers Paradise with her 12-month-old baby on November 6. Police allege the baby boy ingested a “significant” amount of the drug ice. Acting Detective Inspector Troy Penrose, of the Vulnerable Persons and Domestic Violence Unit, said police would allege the child consumed a significant quantity of methamphetamine while at the unit.
