Police say that two men are in hospital after an accident on the M1 overnight, when emergency services responded to reports of a crash involving two cars near Clothiers Creek at about 8pm last night (Saturday 17 April).
Officers attached to Tweed-Byron Police District arrived to find a Mazda sedan – which had been travelling north in the southbound lanes – and a Volkswagon Golf, travelling south, collided head-on.
The driver of the Mazda, a 67-year-old man, and the driver of the Volkswagon, a 21-year-old man, were trapped in the wreckage for a short time before being released and taken to Gold Coast University Hospital.

Premium Content  Police are investigating after a woman was found dead with burn injuries this morning in the backyard of a Gold Coast home. A 35-year-old man, who police think may have been her former partner, was found in a semiconscious state two blocks away. Police were called to a home at Spikes Crt at Arundel for a welfare check about 6.40am after a concerned neighbour called police to report a disturbance. On arrival, police found the woman s body in the backyard. The man was suffering from burn marks to his hands and airway, and taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition, where he remains under police guard.

The woman who was found dead with burns to her body in the backyard of a Gold Coast home has been identified as mother-of-three Kelly Wilkinson.
Ms Wilkinson s burnt body was discovered early on Tuesday morning on Spikes Court in Arundel, north of the city s CBD.
Police were called to the area at 6:40am and immediately cordoned off the street before speaking to neighbours about what they had seen.
A 35-year-old man was located nearby in a semi-conscious state with burns to his hands and airways.
