Two men have been seriously injured in a head-on crash near Tweed Heads. A Mazda sedan was travelling north on the M1 Motorway, when it crossed into the southbound lane, crashing into a Volkswagen Golf. The vehicles’ drivers – two men aged 67 and 21 – were both trapped in the wreckage. They were released by emergency services a short time later. Both men were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital with serious pelvic and lower limb injuries. The motorway was closed for an hour while the wreck was removed. Police are now investigating and are urging anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Emergency services responded to reports of a crash involving two cars on the M1 Motorway, near Clothiers Creek, 25km south of Tweed Heads, about 8pm on Saturday, April 17. Officers attached to Tweed-Byron Police District arrived to find a Mazda sedan - which had been travelling north in the southbound lanes - and a Volkswagon Golf, travelling south, collided head-on. The driver of the Mazda, a 67-year-old man, and the driver of the Volkswagon, a 21-year-old man, were trapped in the wreckage for a short time before being released and taken to Gold Coast University Hospital.

Wounding charges, Surfers Paradise 18 April

Detectives have charged a man after another man was stabbed in Surfers Paradise this afternoon. It will be alleged around 4pm a verbal altercation occurred at a Purli Street unit in which the 46-year-old resident of the unit received a single stab wound to his right quad from a small kitchen knife. The two men are known to each other. The victim was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment of a 2cm wound. A 30-year-old Nerang man was located in front of the building by police and charged with one count each of wounding, assault, enter premises and commit indictable offence and wilful damage.
