Brookline: Ceremonies at Walnut Hills Cemetery on May 31 start at 9 a.m., and then continue on to the Walnut Street Cemetery for a ceremony conducted by the Daughters of the American Revolution. The Town Hall ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. This year again due to the ongoing pandemic and to keep everyone safe, we will not be providing bus transportation to the cemeteries, conducting the procession leading into the main ceremony or the collation after ceremonies.
Burlington: Ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m. on May 31 at Chestnut Hill Cemetery. There will be representation from the Allied Veterans Council, police and fire department honor guard, Scout troops and representatives from other veterans’ service organizations. The guest speaker is Jeremy Brooks, a U.S. Air Force veteran, who deployed multiple times to Afghanistan and Iraq.

The first warm days of spring in Michigan are always so exciting to celebrate. It is reminder that Memorial Day weekend is on the way as well as the kickoff for summer.
For me and my family, those first few warm days are beautiful, but also a reminder that Memorial Day is a painful reminder of our loss. My family and I are what is known as a Gold Star Family. Gold Star Families are families who have tragically lost a U.S. service member while serving during a time of conflict. For Gold Star Families, Memorial Day is the day we honor and remember the ultimate sacrifice of our fallen service member. It is a very painful day.

LEWISTON The L&A Veterans Council will honor Gold Star families at the Memorial Day ceremony Saturday at Veterans Memorial Park starting at 10 a.m.
The Gold Star Families monument will be unveiled.
A Gold Star Family is one that has had a family member in the military who died in the line of duty. It is meant to honor the service member’s ultimate sacrifice while acknowledging their family’s loss, grief and continued healing, according to the United Service Organizations.
The monument will honor the memory of the those who died and create a lasting memorial for future families.
