Smith County shelter to charge small fees

Credit: Smith County Published: 6:39 PM CST February 25, 2021 Updated: 6:40 PM CST February 25, 2021 SMITH COUNTY, Texas Beginning April 1, the Smith County Animal Control and Shelter will begin charging small fees to offset the costs of housing dogs at the shelter. The Smith County Commissioners Court approved the implementation of a fee schedule at its meeting on Tuesday, February 23. Smith County Animal Control and Shelter Supervisor, Amber Greene, says the average stay at the shelter for a dog is 15 days, which costs the county $77. Adoptions have been free, but beginning April 1, adoptions from the shelter will cost $30, which will include some vaccinations, a microchip, and 30 days of pet health insurance.

On Belmont s vast backstretch, they re responsible for the housing and well-being of a small city: anywhere from 450 to 600 backstretch workers living in approximately 500 rooms among 69 cottages. On March 19, 2020, NYRA voluntarily suspended live racing at Aqueduct Racetrack due to changing circumstances in the racing community relative to COVID-19 pandemic. Although racing was stopped, the essential work of caring for the more than 1,300 horses stabled at Belmont continued.
