There is no contradiction in pursuing both economic recovery and independence at the same time, according to the Scottish Greens.
In a BBC Radio Scotland interview, co-leader Patrick Harvie said Scotland s ability to recover from the pandemic was hindered by the UK government.
Independence would allow investment-led recovery, he said.
Mr Harvie also said the country had to prepare for how the energy sector would be impacted by climate change.
Speaking on the Good Morning Scotland programme, he said Scotland needed independence to become a fair and equal society .

The Christian Institute has warned the Scottish Government not to adopt schools guidance on transgender pupils from a controversial LGBT activist group.
The new guidance is an update to ‘Supporting Transgender Young People’. It was first drawn up by LGBT Youth Scotland in 2017, but was challenged by The Christian Institute for being “incorrect”, “misleading and misguided”.
The Scottish Government had originally endorsed the guidance, with its logo appearing on the front cover, but backtracked after the Institute’s warnings.

A Scottish Greens MSP has quit the party over its alienating and provocative stance on trans rights.
Andy Wightman said he had been threatened with possible expulsion over his concerns about the potential impact of the issue on women s rights.
And he accused the party of being very censorious of any deviation from an agreed line .
A spokesman for the Scottish Greens said the party wished Mr Wightman well for the future.
He added: The Scottish Greens are focused on building a greener and fairer Scotland that tackles the climate emergency, so Andy Wightman s decision not to be part of our movement anymore is a matter of deep disappointment.
Tweaks, among others, replaced the word “gender” with “sex” regarding a victim’s rights to choose their forensic examiner – the amendment was seen by some lawmakers and activists as signalling the deep hostility felt towards trans folk, acting almost as a proxy for the Gender Recognition Act debates.
It passed with 113 votes in favour and just nine opposed and a single MSP abstained. The Scottish Greens, in line with the party’s support for trans rights, were told to oppose, Wightman said.
Wightman, a high-profile land reform campaigner, admitted that he only voted to strike down the amendment due to a threat of “complaints and disciplinary action leading to possible suspension, deselection or expulsion”.
