NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans is ahead of the game in Louisiana in vaccinations, city officials announced Wednesday as they eased COVID-19 restrictions.
New Orleans Health Department Director Dr. Jennifer Avegno says 21% of New Orleanians have received their first dose and 11% are fully vaccinated.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Governor John Bel Edwardsâ decision to expand the availability of COVID-19 vaccines to people as young as 16 with underlying conditions opens the door for tens of thousands to get protection.
While there are three different vaccines currently available, only the Pfizer shot is FDA approved for younger recipients. Dr. Loren Finger, MD, with Childrenâs Hospital says itâs one of the safest vaccines to ever be put to market.

BATON ROUGE (WVUE) - Beginning March 9, people ages 16 to 64 with certain health conditions will be able to get the shot.
Tuesday marks one year since the first case of the coronavirus was reported in Louisiana. On Monday, March 8, the governor’s office planted 9,758 white flags outside of the Louisiana State Capitol to represent the number of Louisianans who have died from the coronavirus in the last year.
The state has reported 434,926 coronavirus cases since the pandemic began. As of March 1, officials with the Louisiana Department of Health say 415,954 patients have recovered from the virus.
