An incarcerated Chatham-Kent police officer is closer to learning if she will be released on bail after a brief Tuesday court appearance via teleconference.
Cristelle Vanden Enden, who is facing several charges related to separate incidents, will now return to court on March 23 to confirm a date for a bail hearing.

Vanden Enden has been in custody since mid-January at the South West Detention Centre in Windsor.

Less than two weeks after being arrested and charged with attempted murder, a young Windsor man is dead following a fatal drug overdose while in custody at the South West Detention Centre.
Nathaniel Krug, 21, and a cellmate overdosed on the powerful opiate fentanyl on Wednesday, the Windsor Star has learned. Both were rushed to Windsor Regional Hospital but only one of the men survived.

A Wallaceburg woman facing a first-degree murder charge will return to court in the spring for a judicial pretrial, which will then officially pass the three-year mark of the case.
Kourtny Audette, 27, made a brief appearance by video in Chatham court on Thursday.

Representatives for Audette’s lawyer, Laura Joy, and Chatham-Kent Crown attorney Rob MacDonald appeared before Justice Paul Kowalyshyn to pass along instructions concerning these next steps.
The judicial pretrial continuation, to take place in the judge’s chambers, was scheduled for May 18. The matter will return to open court on June 14.
