The Indian authorities may have given a go-ahead to two COVID-19 vaccines (Covishield by AstraZeneca and Oxford University, and Covaxin by Bharat Biotech), the task of administering a two-dose vaccine to over 1.3 billion people will be nothing short of a logistical nightmare.
With the approval of the two vaccines, the government authorities have also re-launched the Co-WIN (COVID Vaccine Intelligence Network). The indigenously built platform, which will work as an intelligence ecosystem, is an updated version of eVIN (Electronic Vaccine Intelligence Network), and has been developed in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

States gear up for massive vaccination drive PTI
New Delhi: Ahead of the nationwide roll-out of COVID-19 vaccine from January 16, several states said Sunday they have made all necessary preparations for the first phase of the exercise. The states said they have identified the vaccination sites and have finished registration of healthcare and other frontline workers.
Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said the city government has finalised 89 sites to roll out the COVID-19 vaccination drive. “The Centre has finalised around 5,000 sites across India. As per the directions of the central government, we have finalized 89 hospitals as vaccination sites. The first phase of vaccination will start from January 16,” Jain said. He added 40 government hospitals and 49 private ones will have a vaccination site each.

India is all set to kickstart its mega vaccination drive against coronavirus on January 16, prioritising around 30 million healthcare and frontline workers in the first phase.
Ahead of the mega drive across India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a virtual meeting with all the Chief Ministers of all states on Monday, January 11, to discuss the pandemic situation and the vaccination roll-out in the country.
Coronavirus vaccine Updates: With the coronavirus vaccination drive in India set to rollout on January 16, the transportation of Covishield vaccine co-developed by the University of Oxford and British-Swedish company AstraZeneca and manufactured by the Serum Institute of India in Pune in Maharashtra is likely to start from the evening of January 11 or on January 12, sources said on Sunday. The Central government on Saturday said India will launch its Covid-19 vaccination drive from January 16, with priority to be given to nearly three crore health care and frontline workers. India has two coronavirus vaccines ready for rollout: One is Covaxin, that has been developed by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Institute of Virology, and another is Covishield.
