HAMPTON ROADS, Va. â With its single-dose shot, Johnson & Johnsonâs COVID-19 vaccine offered hope to many medical workers rolling up their sleeve at a clinic over the weekend, which was coordinated by Riverside Health System and the Virginia Department of Health.
Riversideâs Vice President
and Chief Pharmacy Officer Cindy Williams said all 600 doses were administered in a matter of hours.
âThere were even some individuals that had been waiting for the J&J vaccine to come out,â she said. âItâs a very effective vaccine. I would ask individuals to keep an open mind, not consider it to be a second-class vaccine, because thereâs some real value in having a vaccine that is a single dose.â
State Vaccine Coordinator Dr. Avula says by Thursday, Johnson & Johnson vaccines will be distributed across the commonwealth. The Blue Ridge Health District already has 2,000 doses of the new COVID-19 vaccine that will be administered on Friday.

As Minnesota begins the first portion of a state-wide vaccine rollout plan, members of the Gustavus community work tirelessly to establish a vaccination plan for the Gustavus community. Jessica Braun, Nurse Practitioner (NP) and Vaccine Coordinator, is working alongside the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and Nicollet County Public Health in order to ensure the utmost level of safety at Gustavus.
“Vaccination priorities are set by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). Gustavus is working closely with MDH to identify individuals on campus who meet those parameters. The challenge that exists is that there is not enough vaccine supply to meet the current demand. As production of vaccines ramps up and/or more vaccine options become available, more individuals will be able to be vaccinated,” Jessica Braun said.
