ROUTE 3 TRAFFIC SHIFT NEXT WEEK IN WESTMORELAND
FREDERICKSBURG, Va.
– Route 3 traffic in Westmoreland County will be shifted slightly north between Flat Iron Road and Winter Harbor Road on Wednesday, June 2, to begin traveling on new pavement in a temporary traffic pattern.
The traffic shift will allow construction to advance on a project underway to build eastbound and westbound passing lanes over a 1.5-mile segment of Route 3 between Potomac Mills and Flat Iron in Westmoreland.
Construction started on the project in December 2020, and is halfway complete. The new lanes are on schedule to open to traffic in December 2021.
Next week, motorists can expect single lane closures with one-way, alternating traffic from noon to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1, and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2 through Friday, June 4.

ROUTE 3 PASSING LANES CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN MONDAY, JANUARY 4
FREDERICKSBURG, Va.
– Construction will begin on Monday, Jan. 4, on a project to reduce congestion and improve travel in the Northern Neck region by creating passing lanes on Route 3 in Westmoreland County.
This $12.7 million project will build eastbound and westbound passing lanes over a 1.5-mile segment of Route 3 between Potomac Mills and Flat Iron in Westmoreland.
When work is complete, Route 3 will become a four-lane undivided road from north of Route 639 (Winter Harbor Road) to east of Route 624 (Longwood Road). Route 3 will have four 12-foot travel lanes, and a 4-foot paved shoulder on each side.
December 24, 2020
On Thursday, December 24, 2020, at approximately 12:00 p.m., police, fire and rescue personnel responded to the area of Flat Iron Road and Ryan Lane in Great Mills, for the motor vehicle collision with one subject unconscious.
Troopers from the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack arrived on the scene to find a single vehicle in driveway of a private residence that had struck a wooden walkway and sign belonging to Bowles Mulch, the operator was found unconscious and unresponsive inside of the vehicle.
Fire and rescue personnel arrived on the scene and reported State Troopers were performing CPR on the operator.
White Plains man turns himself in for shooting
A 20-year-old has been arrested in connection with a shooting on Tuesday, Dec. 15, which sent a woman to the hospital.
Officers became aware of the alleged shooting at about 2 a.m. when a woman had arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the shoulder, a release from the Charles County Sheriffâs Office says.
Investigators later determined the shooting occurred off Frazier Road in Bryans Road, and obtained an arrest warrant for Antonio Lamar Carter, 20, of White Plains.
Carter turned himself in last Thursday, Dec. 17, the release says, and was charged with first-degree assault as well as reckless endangerment. He was released after a family member from Lexington Park posted $10,000 in cash bail, court records say.
