BRATTLEBORO â Plans to repair a retaining wall and reinstall the Whetstone Pathway bridge downtown are moving forward.
âWe think it is both a durable repair, and the fastest and cheapest way to go at something that was so completely unexpected,â Town Manager Peter Elwell said at the Select Board meeting held remotely Tuesday. âFastest matters because of the continued risk and the lesser expense matters because none of this was budgeted.â
Steve Barrett, director of public works, said steel beams could be delivered in a few weeks and companies involved in the project design are available to continue their services. The board unanimously approved the plan by Renaud Brothers Construction and Waysville Engineering presented Tuesday.

BRATTLEBORO â Vermont Everyone Eats, a COVID-19 response program, this week celebrated one million restaurant meals served to Vermonters experiencing any of the negative effects of the pandemic.
The program was launched in August 2020 with an allocation of $5 million of the stateâs Coronavirus Relief Fund contracted by the Agency of Commerce and Community Development to Southeastern Vermont Community Action Agency. The program would have expired in December, but widespread community support and advocacy empowered the program and state partners to secure additional funding through FEMA and the program has been extended through the state of emergency.

BRATTLEBORO â Utilities Division crews will start spring flushing of the town water mains on Thursday, April 22, at 10 p.m. and continue through Saturday, May 8. Some daytime flushing will continue throughout the weeks of May 10 and May 17.
Customers are asked to check the flushing schedule closely as flushing causes water discoloration, low water pressure and in some areas, intervals of no water. Note that water main flushing will occur at night and during the day. Night flushing will occur from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and day flushing will occur from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

BRATTLEBORO The Brattleboro Parking Department has lifted the winter parking ban. Starting at midnight Friday, overnight parking will be allowed on all streets except in the downtown area. The following streets are never available for overnight parking: Main Street, High Street, Elliot Street (from School St. to Main St.), Flat Street, Canal Street (from the Plaza to #63), Church Street, Elm Street, Harris Place, Grove Street.
