The Leaders’ Summit on Climate is being held on April 22 and 23 in the United States of America to underscore the urgency – and the economic benefits – of stronger climate action.
Malaysia was not part of the 40 countries invited by US President Joe Biden in the summit of world leaders.
This is because Malaysia is
not classified as a climate-vulerable country, says Environment and Water Minister Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
Who is invited?
Only 40 countries were invited, including 17 countries responsible for approximately 80 percent of global emissions and global GDP.
Malaysia does not significantly contribute to global emissions or global GDP, which is why we were not invited. Similarly, countries such as Sweden, Switzerland, and Thailand are not taking part in the summit either, although our neighbour Singapore will be present as the only country from Southeast Asia.

US President Joe Biden s decision to exclude Malaysia from the Climate Action Summit was an indictment of Putrajaya s policy on accepting plastic waste from other countries, charged DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.
In a statement today, Lim said unlike the Pakatan Harapan administration which actively repatriated plastic waste imports, Environment and Water Minister Tuan Ibrahim (

Govt writes off Pahang s RM2.1b water debt

The federal government has agreed to write off the Pahang state government’s debt of RM2.1 billion through the water services industry restructuring agreement, said Environment and Water Minister Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
He said this involved a rural area water supply debt of RM1 billion while the balance would be transferred by novation to Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (Paab).
Paab will build water assets in Pahang before leasing them to.

THE Association for Community and Dialogue (Acid) is appalled by the statement of Environment and Water Minister Tuan Ibrahim that the Kedah Government’s decision not to conduct any rare earth element (REE) mining at water catchment areas in the state was a big sacrifice and suggesting the Penang government compensate for it.
He said this in response to a question from Chow Kon Yeow (PH Tanjong) in the dewan rakyat on the ministry’s measures to preserve and prevent any pollution in the water catchment areas in Ulu Muda forest reserve.
