Irish Water postpones works in busy Portlaoise residential area Reporter:   ); Irish water has announced that water mains replacement works in Colliers Lane, Portlaoise have been temporarily postponed until next month. The works were scheduled to take place on 12 April, in conjunction with Laois County Council. They have now been postponed until early May, announced this Thursday April 15. Irish Water says that further updates will be provided before the works begin. Meanwhile their works in Tonduff, Abbeyleix will proceed as planned. These works involve the replacement of over 1.5km of old cast iron water mains with new, high density polyethylene (plastic) pipes which will improve water quality and reduce high levels of leakage which was impacting the water supply to customers in these areas.The works will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to the customer’s water

Irish Water, working in partnership with Laois County Council, has announced that it is to begin essential water mains replacement works in Portlaoise to improve the security of supply and reduce high levels of leakage in the area.

Cryptosporidium detection puts 1,700 people around Borrisokane on Boil Water Notice

Tipp FM Text 083 311 3311 Photo © Tipp FM A Boil Water Notice has been issued for over 1,700 people on the Borrisokane Public Water Supply. It has been put in place due to the detection of cryptosporidium in the supply. Experts from Irish Water and Tipperary County Council are working to assess the situation and investigate and implement solutions to lift the notice as quickly as possible. Cryptosporidium is a tiny parasite found in human and animal waste. If it is swallowed (ingested), it can cause a disease called cryptosporidiosis. The symptoms of cryptosporidiosis include fever, stomach upset, weight loss and diarrhoea. Cryptosporidium may be found in water if it has been contaminated or if there has been a problem with water treatment.
