The Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) has accused about 32 government agencies of failing to remit their 80 per cent operating surplus to the Consolidated Revenue Fund (CRF), thereby hindering accurate determination of operating surplus liabilities and diminishing accountability and transparency in handling government revenue.
The commission said over N1.2 trillion in revenue was still being withheld by the defaulting agencies, keeping money away from government’s reach for funding of its budget.
The Chairman of the Commission, Victor Muruako, who spoke while briefing National Assembly correspondents Wednesday, said the agencies failed to submit their audited account to the commission to enable it calculate their operating surplus which is supposed to be paid into the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation.
He expressed worry over the high level of insecurity in the state, emphasising that his administration would uphold Governor Samuel Ortom’s stand in the fight to secure the state from invaders through enforcing the anti-open grazing law.
“The New Deal takes a look at the whole scope of the state. It is a document that will shape our vision and mission as a people. I’m coming with a full grasp of the challenges confronting Benue in all sectors and how to take the state from where Governor Ortom will leave it.
“The state has been turned into a killing field especially my maternal home, Guma. I trained at the Institute of Security and will use my experience as well as sustain the governor’s stand on indiscriminate and brutal killing of our people,” he said.
He said this is another wasteful scheme better described as a conduit pipe that had exposed road users’ lives to unnecessary dangers.
“We, therefore, advise Yahaya Bello to borrow a leave from the PDP in the state on how it successfully completed the notorious Meme bridge and others without exposing the lives of good people to any danger,” he advised.
He called on the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) to come to the aid of the people of Kogi State to investigate the failed bridge to avoid other impending dangers to human lives arising from the construction of substandard projects and to ensure that standards are complied with.
