The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has offered its hands of fellowship and collaboration to stakeholders in the health care delivery sector in Nigeria, in order to enhance the quality of equipment, machinery and services being offered in the sector. SON Director General, Mallam Farouk Salim made the offer recently in a goodwill message to the 45th National Convention of the Pharmaceutical Association of Nigerian Students (PANS), held at the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Represented by Engr. Ugochukwu Nwachukwu, the SON Chief Executive stated that the offshore conformity assessment programme for SON regulated imports (SONCAP) provides a window of import permit for raw materials, equipment and machinery and urged stakeholders to take optimum advantage of it to improve the quality of products being offered to Nigerians.
The Director-General of the ITF, Joseph Ari, who launched the phone, dubbed, “ITF Mobile” at the 12th National Council on Industry, Trade and Investment held in Abuja recently, said the organisation had been in the process of trade-marking and certifying the phone with the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON).
The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo and Ambassador Mariam Katagum, received the made-in-Nigeria smart-phone for onward transmission to President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
In an interview in his office, Ari said the homegrown technology was produced under the supervision of the training manager, Mrs Yinka Shodunke.
BRIEF HISTORY

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria has sealed a plaza in Auto Spare Parts and Machinery Dealers Association adulterating established lubricants.
The Director General, SON, Mallam Farouk Salim, explained that the move aimed to guard against the prevalence of motor accidents and machine breakdown, especially during the Yuletide season, a statement issued by the agency said.
The SON boss represented by the Coordinator, Surveillance, Intelligence and Monitoring unit, SON, Issa Sulaimon, at an enforcement exercise in ASPMDA market in Lagos on Wednesday, said SON was locating places where adulteration of lubricants was being carried out.
He stressed that the standards body would leave no stone unturned till it brings sanity into the nation’s lubricant market.
