International Women s Day: The rescue helicopter paramedic who s in the minority, but doesn t feel like it

ANDY JACKSON/Stuff Taranaki Rescue Helicopter intensive care paramedic Janine Nutt said there will always be critics, but they shouldn’t stop women following their dreams. Intensive care paramedic Janine Nutt has worked in her male-dominated industry all over the world, but she’s never been treated like a “girl”. Nutt is one of the Taranaki women working within emergency services being celebrated for International Women’s Day, which falls on Monday. “It’s a privilege to be there when someone’s having their worst day,” she said. “I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.” The 30-year-old is an intensive care paramedic for the Taranaki Community Rescue Helicopter, and has been since November 2019.

Motorcyclist airlifted to hospital with serious injuries following crash

A person has suffered serious injuries after a motorcycle crash in South Taranaki. Police were notified of the single bike crash on Ohangai Rd near Hāwera about 1.30pm on Saturday, a police media spokesperson said. The Taranaki Community Rescue Helicopter responded and airlifted the patient to Taranaki Base Hospital. The road was closed for a short time, but has reopened. Stuff

Thousands of people took the opportunity to check out the displays, including police, fire, St John ambulance, Coastguard, the New Zealand Defence Force, surf lifesaving and Red Cross, at the event, which was held at the Taranaki Base Hospital hangar.
