COVID-19 war room set up in Dharwad

On Friday, Minister for Large and Medium Industries and district-in charge Jagadish Shettar visited the war room to see its functioning and lauded the district administration for its initiative. Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad Nitesh Patil said that the war room would provide information on COVID-19 treatment and bed availability. Assistant Commissioner of Dharwad Gopalkrishna B., who is supervising the war room functioning, said that at present twelve personnel had been deployed and they would provide information on bed availability, among others.

Mr. Pralhad Joshi said that the make-shift hospital planned on KIMS premises for COVID-19 patients was being built by Vedanta Group and the 100-bed air-conditioned hospital with 20 ventilators and 10 ICU beds and 70 oxygen beds will be ready in the next 10 days.

Chairing a meeting of management boards of private hospitals and nodal officers appointed to coordinate with private hospitals in Dharwad on Friday, Mr. Shettar said that with a surge in COVID-19 cases several patients were finding it difficult to pay treatment fees in private hospitals and he would appeal to medical professionals to cooperate with the government in breaking the chain of transmission and also in the treatment of the patients.

Speaking to presspersons in Dharwad after participating in a video conference with the Chief Minister on Thursday, Mr. Shettar said that the district administration was effectively handling the situation. It had also taken the requisite measures to face the situation in the eventuality of a surge in COVID-19 cases. Mr. Shettar said that at present, Dharwad district had 3,489 active cases and of them, 2,486 patients were under home isolation. A total of 1,212 patients were admitted to different hospitals in the district and among them, 228 were from other districts, he said.
