One in eight Utah children struggles with hunger, according to Feeding America. That’s an even bigger issue over summer break. Some Utah school districts will be offering free summer school lunch programs.
Cache County School District: Free meals will be served to children ages 18 and younger Monday through Friday from June 7 to July 16.
White Pine and Lewiston Elementary Schools from 11:30am-12:30pm
Birch Creek, Cedar Ridge, Nibley, and Lincoln Elementary Schools from 11:15am-12:30pm
Grand County School District: Breakfast and lunch will be offered for free to all children 18 and under at Helen M. Knight Elementary School.

A Utah high school has gone viral after students were filmed cheering at a classmate who cut down an LGBTQ Pride flag.
Students at Ridgeline High School in Millville, Utah, encouraged the student to remove the flag, which was hanging alongside flags from different nations in the school’s commons.

A Spring Creek Middle School teacher was arrested on suspicion of physically assaulting students on Wednesday.
Scott D. Meeker, 51, was arrested on suspicion of felony counts of child abuse and aggravated assault as well as three counts of misdemeanor assault.
According to a statement from the Cache County Sheriffâs Office, a resource officer working at Providence middle school had been notified of an alleged assault on a student by a teacher. That evening, Lt. Doyle Peck wrote, a local hospital reported a student being treated for an injury, and the student was âone of several victims in the alleged incident.â

PROVIDENCE, Utah â A Cache County middle school teacher was arrested Thursday for allegedly assaulting several students.
Scott D. Meeker, 51, a teacher at Spring Creek Middle School in Providence, was charged with one count of Felony Second Degree Child Abuse, Third Degree Felony Aggravated Assault and three counts of Class B Misdemeanor Assault.
Meeker was originally placed on administrative leave Wednesday after a school resource officer notified the school district of an alleged assault on a student.
The Cache County Sheriff s Office began its investigation Thursday after a hospital called authorities to report a student was being treated for injuries sustained in a possible assault. Officials believe the student was one of several victims of assault.
