THE focus for Colin Stewart has always been on the next generation. There have been times this season where he has feared for the future. As Director of Operations for the Rangers Youth Development Company, Stewart’s remit is to raise the funds that help keep the wheels turning on the Auchenhowie production line. Every time a player emerges through the ranks, Stewart has had a part to play in the process. Recent months have proven to be the most challenging of his two decades at Ibrox, however. As the world adapted to the ever-changing Covid crisis, Stewart and his staff had to find ways to keep the money coming in and the prizes going out.
THE summer of 2021 will mark the 20th anniversary of the facility that is home from home away from Ibrox. From Murray Park to the Hummel Training Centre, Auchenhowie to the Rangers Football Centre, it has been given various monikers over the years. The name above the door isn’t important, but what happens behind those blue crested gates certainly is. When Sir David Murray pulled the chords to his new £14million build two decades ago, he insisted it was significant for Scottish football as well as Rangers and that Murray Park, as it was initially named, would be something that every Rangers supporter could be proud of.
RANGERS have shown their support to the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity by holding a Christmas jumper day at training. Players from the B Team, Under-18s and Women s side sported festive kit at Auchenhowie on Thursday and raised more than £1,300 as part of the Rangers Charity Foundation s partnership with the hospital. That cash will be added to Foundation’s annual donation to the charity, which will take place later this month, as the Academy teams play their part in spreading some festive cheer this Christmas. Players from the youth teams usually visit the hospital each November to spend time with the kids but the trip was cancelled this year due to Coronavirus restrictions.
