Head of International Statistics at the ABS Andrew Tomadini said: “June 2021 recorded a monthly export value above $40 billion. Exports increased 8 per cent to $41.3 billion, with significant increases in metalliferous ores, coal, non-monetary gold, and gas”. Exports of metalliferous ores reached a record $20.5 billion, making up almost half of Australia’s total export in June. Driving the increase was iron ore, with a record export value of $17.6 billion, and copper ore which recorded $847 million in export value this month.

ABS Head of International Statistics, Andrew Tomadini said “Exports remained steady, increasing $12.6 million in April, but imports fell $1.9 billion, adding to the already strong surplus recorded in March 2021. Increases in the exports of coal, petroleum, metalliferous ores and medicinal and pharmaceutical products were offset by declines in non-monetary gold and oil seeds. However, the continued strength of metalliferous ores has contributed to total exports for April 2021 reaching a record high $36 billion.

Date Time Exports showing steely resolve: Australia The December goods trade surplus of $9 billion was a significant increase, up $7.4 billion from the November surplus, according to newly released data by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). “Imports have fallen following a November spike to be more in line with recent history”, said ABS Head of International Statistics, Katie Hutt, “while exports of metalliferous ores and cereals are the strongest in history, resulting in the fourth highest goods trade surplus on record”. The strong surplus is heavily influenced by trade with China. Imports from China fell $641 million (7 per cent) in December, while exports to China increased $2.3 billion (21 per cent). Australia’s goods trade surplus with China alone stands at $5.2 billion for December.
