About 150 labourers working in a power project were reported to have gone missing after a glacier broke and crashed into a dam in India's Himalayan state of Uttarakhand's Chamoli district today. The glacier burst triggered massive flooding in Alaknanda and Dhauliganga rivers, forcing emergency evacuations from nearby human settlements, officials and media reports said.

The government has asked the Army to help district administration and disaster teams of the central and state government in their rescue operations. Further, Indian Air Force assets, both fixed wing as well as rotary, are on standby to provide all possible assistance to the affected persons.
