Loved: PC 1724 Nick Dumphreys, loved by his family and his colleagues COLLEAGUES and friends of the popular Cumbrian police officer Nick Dumphreys have fondly remembered him – a year to the day after the motorway crash that claimed his life. PC 1724 Dumphreys, 47, died when his marked police car veered off the M6 between junctions 43 and 44 near Carlisle on January 26 last year. An inquest has since been opened into the tragedy. The officer’s death triggered a flood of tributes and hundreds of people attended the funeral in Carlisle for PC Dumphreys, a married father-of-two who was hugely popular and adored by his family.
