Lancashire Police stop BMW A DRIVER who led police on a high speed pursuit in a stolen car has been arrested. Officers from Lancashire Police’s Tactical Operations Unit were involved in the incident overnight, which ended when a stinger device was deployed to bring the vehicle to a stop. It later transpired that the high-performance car had been stolen from the Cheshire area. A TacOps spokesman said: “Vehicle sighted in Lancashire at high speed Seen again on the M6. Managed to ‘sting’ one of the tyres. “A pursuit ensued until the driver lost control on the M65 and was detained. Enquiries found it to be stolen in Cheshire.”
10 fire crews were called to the scene
Two houses collapsed and a third suffered serious damage in the blast which happened around 2:40am in Mallowdale Avenue.
10 fire crews, six ambulances and four doctors were called to the scene, which one emergency worker described as devastating.
Police evacuated houses in the vicinity of the explosion and cordoned off the scene.
A fleet of ambulances ferried casualties, many with severe burns, to hospital.
Casualties, believed to be suffering from serious burns, were taken to hospital in a fleet of ambulances.
A police spokesperson said: We were called at 2.40am this morning (Sunday May 16th) to reports that a number of houses on the road had collapsed.

Twenty-six people at an illegal poker party have each been fined £800 for breaching Covid restrictions.
Lancashire Police found the tournament going on in a room above Roberto s Bar in Blackburn at 19:00 GMT on Saturday.
Bodycam footage shows the players, from as far away as Nottingham, laughing at officers when confronted.

Partying students climbed out of windows to escape being fined for breaching Covid rules, police have said.
Officers found between 50 to 70 people at students flats in Lancaster in the early hours of Saturday.
Lancashire Police said 38 people were each fined £800 because the gathering was more than 15 people.
Deputy Chief Constable Terry Woods said the force was no longer issuing warnings, adding: Enough is enough.
He said officers were called to a really large party reported by a member of the public at about 01:30 GMT on Saturday.
