Globe income rises 11% on lower non-operating charges, CREATE law May 7, 2021 | 7:23 pm BW FILE PHOTO Globe Telecom, Inc. announced on Friday an 11% increase in its first-quarter attributable net income, owing to a newly signed tax relief law and a decrease in non-operating charges. Globe’s attributable net income reached P7.31 billion in the first three months, up from P6.58 billion in the same period in 2020, the Ayala-led telco said in a statement to the stock exchange. “Despite the resurgence of COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) cases in the country and the lingering uncertainties from the pandemic, we are encouraged by the improvements in Globe’s first quarter results,” Globe President and Chief Executive Officer Ernest L. Cu said.

The listed Ayala-led telco’s core net income for 2020, which excludes the impact of non-recurring charges, foreign exchange and mark-to-market charges, went down to P19.52 billion from P22.45 billion in 2019. Full-year service revenues from mobile, home broadband, corporate data, and fixed line voice decreased 1.76% to P146.39 billion from P149.01 billion in the previous year. Broken down, mobile revenue declined 7.08% to P103.11 billion from P110.97 billion, while broadband revenue jumped 23.23% to P26.80 billion from P21.75 billion.

Globe moves tech infrastructure to Amazon cloud service provider

December 15, 2020 | 12:05 am Font Size AAA MOBILE NETWORK operator Globe Telecom, Inc. has successfully transferred on Monday the bulk of its technology infrastructure to cloud service provider Amazon Web Systems, Inc. (AWS), in a bid to accelerate the former’s digital transformation and improve customer experience. AWS is a subsidiary of American multinational technology company Amazon. In a statement, Globe said that it was able to migrate its contact center operations, customer analytics, network and service assurance systems, infrastructure operations, monitoring, and security, from its on-premises data centers to AWS. It added that it continues to transfer applications to AWS to modernize its infrastructure and services. Although he did not give the exact percentage of the infrastructure that was moved to AWS, Globe’s Chief Information officer Carlomagno E. Malana told reporters in a Monday press briefing that there was “definitely a clear majority.”
