Ian Ashworth (inset) provided councillors with an update on the borough s position. Image: CHAMPS FALLS in Cheshire West’s infection rate are ‘fantastic’ but ‘more progress’ needs to be made. That’s according to two senior council officials, speaking at a meeting of the authority’s Covid-19 outbreak board yesterday (March 10). CWAC’s current rolling seven-day infection rate is 60.6 cases per 100,000 residents down by 90 per cent since its early-January peak. Ian Ashworth, CWAC’s Director of Public Health, said: “We have seen a 30 per cent reduction in the previous week with infection rates which is fantastic it’s great to see that.
Coronavirus. INFECTION rates in Cheshire West continue to move in ‘a positive direction’ but need to drop further before some lockdown restrictions are eased. Those are the views of two senior council officials, providing an update on the borough’s pandemic response on Wednesday. Chief Executive Andrew Lewis said: “Things are moving in a positive direction and the level of infection is continuing to reduce but our teams are still hearing about 400 cases every week. “It is like a game of whack-a-mole when the outbreaks pop up we can bash them. At the moment, there’s too many moles. “We really need to keep a focus on getting levels of infection down.”
IT’S amazing what a bit of sun can do to lift a county’s mood. Having been blasted by floods, snowstorms, and high winds over the past winter, it feels like this week was the first inkling of spring in Cheshire. Spring is often associated with hope and new beginnings, and that feeling has been strengthened by the government’s announcement of the end of lockdown ‘roadmap’. We could be back to normality by June 21, should data allow and there’s been a real sense of optimism among Cheshire’s political and health leaders this week that the county has turned a corner in its Covid-19 fightback.
