PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICIALS this evening confirmed a further 400 cases of Covid-19 and seven additional deaths in Ireland.
This evening’s figures mean that there has now been a total of 239,723 cases of Covid-19 in Ireland, along with 4,737 deaths.
The deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn led tonight’s NPHET briefing, alongside the chair of the NPHET Irish Epidemiological Modelling Advisory Group Professor Philip Nolan, virologist and Director of the National Virus Reference Laboratory Dr Cillian de Gascun and Chief Executive of the Health Products Regulatory

The 5km travel limit will be lifted from April 12, while people from two different households will be allowed to meet up socially outdoors from the same date

THE NUMBER OF people in hospital with Covid-19 across the country has continued to fall, reaching levels not seen since before the start of the pandemic’s third wave here.
The figure is the lowest such number since 19 December, when there were 212 patients in hospital with the virus – a statistic which increased significantly in the days that followed.

A member of the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) has confirmed that COVID-19 variants with no link to international travel has been detected in Ireland.
Dr Mary Favier, a former president of the Irish College of General Practitioners (ICGP), said that while the variants have been detected in ‘very small numbers’, their discovery is still concerning.
The announcement comes after eight further deaths related to COVID-19 and 591 new cases were confirmed on Friday, with the 14-day incidence rate now standing at 166 cases per 100,000 people.
