Carlisle is set to receive £9.1 million government funding through the Future High Streets Fund. Cllr John Mallinson, Leader of Carlisle City Council said: “The funding offer will help Carlisle bounce back from the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. “This funding adds to the significant investment already committed through the Towns Deal Fund, the Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal and St Cuthbert’s Garden Village. “2021 is set to be a landmark year for investment in Carlisle.” In total, 72 English high streets will share over £830 million, with 57 of these areas, including Carlisle, announced today. The funding is part of the Government’s plan to create thousands of jobs in a range of industries across England.
MORE than £9m in savings have been found by Carlisle City Council in the past decade. It set its 2021/22 budget on Wednesday night at a special full council meeting. A revised savings requirement has been calculated of £0.5m in 2021/22; increasing to £1.2m in 2022/23 and further increasing to £2.05m in 2023/24. Leader of Carlisle City Council, Councillor John Mallinson, said: “Even through extremely challenging times, we have continued to deliver services and support our local residents and businesses. “Thanks to everyone that has taken the time to contribute towards our new budget. It continues to focus on the priorities of the council and aims to boost our economy as well as promoting health and wellbeing within our communities.
Carlisle City Council has set its budget for the next financial year. At a special full council meeting last night, members heard that the authority has successfully achieved or identified over £9 million in savings since 2010/11. A revised savings requirement has been calculated of £500,000 in 2021/22; increasing to £1.2million.
