Driven by global efforts to fight climate change, but also motivated by economic competitiveness in an increasingly low-carbon world, governments around the world are charting the future of their economies.
A key part of these efforts and an area that Clean Energy Canada has called “the next frontier” of climate and economic planning is industrial policy.
The U.K. has announced an industrial strategy and more recently a Ten Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution. The EU similarly has A New Industrial Strategy for Europe. And as for the U.S., industrial policy is coming in the form of investment: namely, a US$2-trillion infrastructure blueprint that will include, among other clean energy investments, a whopping US$174 billion to “win the EV market.”
