WCCC names students of month | News, Sports, Jobs

The Washington County Career Center honors its December Students of the Month, Carly Grosklos and Ruslan Strahler. Carly Grosklos is a Fort Frye senior enrolled in the Sports Medicine & Exercise Science program, and she is the daughter of Patrick and Michele Grosklos of Lowell. Grosklos is a member of the Career Center’s SkillsUSA youth organization and the National Technical Honor Society. At Fort Frye High School, she was active in Softball. At the Career Center, she received awards for the Career Center’s Principal List and Energy Bus Drivers Program for meeting all three criteria of 3.0 GPA or higher, 95% attendance or higher, and no office referrals. She currently has earned or is enrolled in both high school and college credit courses for English Composition, Introduction to Nutrition, Management of Athletic Injuries, Medical Terminology I&II, and Resistance Training.

The Peninsula Doha: Al-Ahli Hospital has recently installed Automated Defibrillators (AED) in key public areas of the facility. A longtime resident and visitor to the City of Fernandina Beach was out for his morning run when he experienced sudden cardiac arrest. A bystander performed CPR, notified 911 and used an AED (Automated External Defibrillator). Mark was treated on scene and then transported to Baptist Medical Center Nassau where he was cared for by emergency room staff. “Due to the willingness of citizens, the quick response of the Fernandina Beach Police Department, and Fernandina Beach Fire Department, Mark and his family will be celebrating another Christmas together,” a Facebook post said.

Mr. King’s Essential’s of Healthcare class visits BRES for Basic Healthcare LessonsRebel s Corner December 17, 2020 , by Staff Admin Students in Mr. King’s Essential’s of Healthcare class at FCHS had to choose their end of the semester comprehensive assignment. These students chose to present a “Basic Healthcare” lesson to our 5 th grade students at Blue Ridge Elementary. They are hoping to present to East and West Fannin next week. The lesson included how students could recognize an emergency and how to contact 911. It also include having student make a cheat sheet with their home address and important information they may need to know during an emergency. The lesson also taught student how to recognize signs of stroke and heart attack as well as what to do if someone passes out, has a neck injury, or is in a fire situation. The FCHS student also taught and demonstrated how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and how to do “Hands-Only” CPR.
