After 15 years with Northern Gateway Public Schools, Superintendent Kevin Andrea will step down in July.
Itâs been an era marked by the development of an identity for the school division, along with the establishment of a division office in Whitecourt, a redrawn logo and more, Andrea said.

âWhat has really served me well over these years is the relationships built with site leaders, school to school,â Andrea said.
âMy philosophy has always been that the role of administration is to knock down those obstacles facing teachers when they engage students.

Wetaskiwin Regional Public Schools Division is joining the growing number of school districts that will not pilot the UCP Government’s draft K-6 curriculum.
In a statement released last week, board chair Lynn Ware said, “It’s important to note that we are still in the midst of a crisis. If there were a tornado swirling around us, we wouldn’t emerge from the refuge of the basement to start building a new shed in the backyard. The current storm needs to pass, and it is then incumbent on us to assess and repair the damage before taking on new projects.”

A teenage girl is dead and a fellow student is in custody after a stabbing at a Leduc high school Monday morning.
Leduc RCMP responded to a 911 call just before 10 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic School, on the city’s east side.

There, officers found a 17-year-old girl who had been stabbed inside a classroom, RCMP Insp. Dale Kendall told reporters.
The student was rushed to hospital in critical condition in a STARS air ambulance. She was flown to University of Alberta Hospital, where she later died.
