A few years ago, the school I worked at suggested a radical change in how I talked about what I asked to do my students. We reflected on the word “work” in classrooms. Homework, classwork, hard worker… all of this emphasized doing something. Looking busy, being active. We stumbled upon something disturbing. With all of this doing, how do we know what our kids are learning? As a group, we decided to work on this together.

A parent of a high school student took issue with critical race theory being integrated into classrooms and children being turned into activists instead of being taught to think. This is a tragedy of ideology called critical race theory. We need to challenge any kind of racism and discrimination that exists in our country. We all agree on that. What happened to this ideology is creating a new hierarchy of human values, parent and former Wall Street Journal reporter Asra Nomani told America s Newsroom on Thursday.

FAIRFAX, VA Three students who live in Fairfax won a National Merit Scholarship, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced Wednesday. The corporate-sponsored awards are the first announced in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship competition for 2021.
Mrinal Bhatnagar, a student at Robinson Secondary School, won a scholarship from Truist Financial Corporation and will likely study physics.
Patrick C. Gilles, a student at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, won a scholarship from The Travelers Employees Club and will likely study computer science.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. Late last month, Suparna Dutta’s son, a student at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, started sending his mother distressing videos from a mandatory lesson straight out of controversial critical race theory all in the name of “socio-emotional learning.”
The lesson centered a Netflix film, “13th,” with controversial activist and Communist Party member Angela Davis and a biased narrative about policing in the United States. While all discrimination must be eliminated in policing, the film has this odd takeaway: “Criminals are constitutionally deprived of freedom.”
Also unsettling, the PowerPoint slides had the distinct bright yellow three stripes that are the official brand of Black Lives Matter, the multimillion-dollar global enterprise. The slides included a key BLM mantra, “Racism as a structure,” with the menacing oversized finger of a white man over a cowering young black man.
