Liberal Senator Sarah Henderson has told Sky News a higher vaccination rate in the community the “less rationale” premiers have to lockdown communities or whole states.
Senator Henderson said the vaccine rollout should encourage state governments to avoid the “incredible hardship” associated with harsh lockdowns.
“We do want to see more consistency, we want to see our economy stay open,” she said.
“The more people who are vaccinated, the less rationale there will be to put certain communities or states in lockdown because we certainly know the economic damage that causes, we know the mental health damage that causes.”
Liberal Senator Sarah Henderson says she is encouraged by US President Joe Biden’s first foreign policy speech, as he delivered some “good observations” about concerns of human rights abuses in China.
It comes after Mr Biden delivered his first address on foreign policy - signalling his plans to chart a course away from Donald Trump’s ‘America First’ approach.
“As we know this is an incredibly important relationship,” Ms Henderson told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
“But our national values and our sovereignty reign supreme and so it is an important balancing exercise as we consider all our challenges in our relationship with China.”
