It’s quite a big place to start, but how can we reckon with the problem of existing inside a body?
Olivia Laing: Well, that s the question that made me write the book. I feel like that question has always been quite live to me. The body is the site of so many different experiences. Sometimes we’re happily and delightful embodied and other times, it feels like we re sort of stuck in this prison. And the body has needs, and those needs can be turned against us. The body is a site of violence and, often, it’s a site of violence because of bodily markers that are completely inescapable. Gender, sexuality, race: all of those things can make our bodies a site of violence and they aren t anything to do with who we are as a person, they’re just to do with the kind of body we have.

In another milestone, scientists at NASA have also created oxygen on Mars, paving the way for human exploration of the Red Planet.
“Did you notice, like, no one’s actually looking at you,” Lin joked to Se. “Exactly! Because it looks real,” Se replied. “No one noticed, even security, I can’t believe this works,” Lin added.
Jamaruli Manihuruk, who heads the Bali regional office for the Justice and Human Rights Ministry, said that Lin and Se’s passports have been seized and the pair will be deported as soon as possible after they are tested for COVID-19.
“Foreigners who don’t respect the laws and regulations in Indonesia are facing deportation sanctions,” he said.
Police and politicians have also commented on the video. “It’s only proper to sanction them more severely, not just with a fine but also deportation,” added Bali’s civil service police unit head Dewa Nyoman Rai Dharmadi. “They are not only violating, but deliberately provoking in public to defy health guidelines.”
