Mhysa s sound takes the pop we know to someplace new

Explain some of the thinking around the work you made for your 2019-2020 residency at The Studio Museum in Harlem and the Artist-in-Residence exhibition at MoMA PS1, “This Longing Vessel”. In what ways did it explore the intersection of Blackness and queerness? MHYSA: I started my residency at The Studio Museum in Harlem in October of 2019 along with artists Elliot Reed and Naudline Pierre. The AIR group show “This Longing Vessel” opened in December of 2020 at Ps1.  I think Blackness and queerness interacted for each artist in the show in our own way and I can only really speak for myself. Being a Black and queer person, Black culture, and queerness as a way of being in the world always shape my lens. This is how I see the world and my art comes from how I interpret or dream about what I see. I think about Black women’s culture, what it means to be a Black femme, what it means to channel feminity in a Black body, to claim the signifier of the feminine, and what the tradit

Radiohead s school band demo is up for auction

Gripe and recorded when the band was still at school – is going up for auction. The cassette tape, which was given to a friend of the band in the 90s, features six tracks, three of which are previously unheard – “Promise Me”, “Body In A Box”, and “These Are The Chains”. The other three tracks are “Happy Song”, “To Be A Brilliant Light”, and “Sinking Ship”. It also includes handwritten notes and a label design by frontman Thom Yorke. At the time of the demo’s recording (1987-89), the band – whose members included Jonny and Colin Greenwood, Ed O’Brien, and Philip Selway – were known as On A Friday, named after the day of the week when they rehearsed. The group met at school in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, and went on to become Radiohead after signing with EMI in 1991 – it’s believed the demo was recorded after they left school, but before they were signed.

How A24 s nightmarish religious horror Saint Maud came to life

When Saint Maud debuted in October, people were stunned by its chilling depictions of faith and obsession. Rose Glass’ debut film, about a deeply religious nurse who becomes hellbent on saving her dying patient’s soul, was not only a heartbreaking reflection on loneliness but also served as a stark reminder of our own online obsessions. Now, an exclusive video reveals the method behind the madness. Coinciding with the film’s digital release on February 1, Studio Canal has unveiled a clip that goes behind the scenes, shining a light on how some of the hair-raising special effects were achieved – including

We re still not over Shygirl s Bridgerton fashion fantasy

The  Gossip Girl period drama, Bridgerton, so it was only a matter of time before the obsession began spilling into the fashion sphere. Besides endless TikTok videos exploring what’s been dubbed ‘Regencycore’ and girls wearing corsets everywhere you look, British rapper Shygirl channelled the era in her latest music video “Tasty” in a series of candy-hued ball gowns and 19th century blonde ringlets. Needless to say, we are extremely into it. Meanwhile, celebs have been showing off plenty of looks in the first weeks of the new year, with Gigi Hadid accessorising her blazer with a dollar bill in New York, and Dua Lipa showing off an exposed g-string on her problematique tropical holiday. And, thanks to a bumper double Drag Race season (thank you Ru!), we saw iconic lewks from queen Symone, who took the top spot in a custom BCALLA x House of Avalon boxing fit, and the UK’s own Bimini Bon-Boulash, who recreated a blue tartan look previously worn by legendary British D
