Derelict Centrepoint owners identified and ordered to improve Portlaoise site Reporter:   ); The owners of the derelict Centrepoint shopping centre in Portlaoise have been identified and legally ordered to secure the site and remove hazardous waste.  Laois County Council has confirmed today that it has served several legal notices to the owners, Pimcar Ltd from Kerry. The owners of the property have been confirmed as Pimcar Ltd, Unit 1 Keltic Business Park, Clieveragh, Listowel, Co. Kerry. The Planning Authority has made contact with the owners , who are engaging in carrying out works to the site. The Planning Authority served notices on the owners of the Centrepoint Property of the intention to enter the site on to the Derelict sites Register which commences that process, Senior Planner Angela McEvoy has confirmed.

New Laois planning rules on rural houses cause councillors concern Reporter:   ); New criteria on building a home in rural Laois could knock out up to 90% of applications, a Laois councillor has said. Updated planning guidelines for houses in rural Laois are to be introduced in 2021. The Laois County Development Plan 2021-2027 is now being finalised, with the draft plan shown to councillors last week.  Some are not happy with the new rules on rural housing. Cllr Padraig Fleming says a rule on longer sightlines at entrances will mean “getting rid of 80 or 90% of rural housing”. New houses must have a clear sightline of approaching traffic, ranging from 60 metres to 120 metres on each side of their house entrance.

The upcoming Laois County Council Development Plan 2021-2027 has a new chapter dedicated to climate action and energy, including the guidance on eco friendly housing. Senior Planner Angela McEvoy says that climate actions are also also “threaded through and integrated into each chapter” of the new plan under development.
