The Biden administration has only “low to medium” confidence that Russia put bounties on American troops in Afghanistan, U.S. officials said Thursday.
“The United States intelligence community assesses with low to moderate confidence that Russian intelligence officers sought to encourage Taliban attacks U.S. and coalition personnel in Afghanistan in 2019 and perhaps earlier,” a U.S. official told reporters Thursday.
According to reporters who attended a briefing about the intelligence, officials attach a low confidence level to the allegation because it came from “detainee reporting,” meaning that a captured Taliban fighter likely provided the information.
Officials said that sources for the assessment are “information and evidence of connections to criminal agents in Afghanistan and elements of the Russian government.”

Border officials apprehend migrants and typically take them to a processing facility before they’re transferred to other federal agencies, though some are released into local communities, a former border official told the Daily Caller News Foundation.
Non-governmental organizations and charities are helping migrants connect with family members across the U.S. and funding their travel to those destinations.
Border officials now have the authority to decide whether to release illegal migrants without setting court dates and instead tell them to report to a local Immigration and Customs Enforcement office at their final destination.
When migrants are discharged from Customs and Border Protection custody, they’re transferred to another government agency or released into local communities, a former border official told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Avril Haines, the director of national intelligence, told lawmakers on Thursday that the intelligence community has seen “indications” that China is attempting to influence the World Health Organization’s assessment about the origins of the coronavirus.
“We’ve certainly seen indications that China is trying to influence the World Health Organization’s efforts in this area,” Haines told Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick during a House Intelligence Committee hearing.
Fitzpatrick, a Republican, had asked Haines whether the intelligence community has seen any “covert” link between WHO and China.
Haines’ remarks are likely to renew skepticism of the relationship between the WHO and Chinese government. The WHO has been accused of placating Beijing and downplaying a series of missteps early on in the pandemic.
Ernst Will Introduce Bill to Prevent Planned Parenthood From Profiting Off Biden’s Title X Decision
Republican Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst is introducing legislation aimed at defunding Planned Parenthood.
The Protect Funding for Women’s Health Care Act would prohibit taxpayer dollars from going to Planned Parenthood and instead direct those funds to other eligible women’s health care providers.
Ernst’s bill comes after the Biden administration began taking steps to undo former President Donald Trump’s Protect Life Rule, which prohibited Title X Family Planning Program funds from going to organizations that perform or promote abortions.

A black activist with the Black Lives Matter of Greater New York is questioning the finances of the national group following the highly publicized purchase of an expensive home by its founder, Patrisse Cullors. In response, the national organization began sending the activist cease-and-desist letters because he apparently isn’t directly affiliated with the group and they object to him using the “Black Lives Matter” name.
Hawk Newsome, the leader of an organization that is not officially affiliated with the parent organization criticized the “trained Marxist” “for presenting herself as a socialist while at the same time purchasing four homes across the U.S. since 2016 for a total of $3.2 million,” according to the Daily Caller.
