Democratic Minnesota Ilhan Omar said Friday she wants to know why President Joe Biden’s administration authorized the airstrikes on Syria without Congressional approval.
“I mean, I certainly am hoping that the administration can give, you know, legal rationale on why they authorized this strike without Congressional approval. You know, we in Congress have congressional oversight in engaging in war, and we haven’t been briefed yet,” Omar said on CNN’s “Inside Politics.”

President Joe Biden’s HHS nominee Xavier Becerra denied Wednesday that he has sued any nuns, though he filed a lawsuit against President Donald Trump’s administration arguing that employers like the Little Sisters of the Poor should not receive religious exemptions from an HHS mandate.
During Wednesday’s hearing, Republican South Dakota Sen. John Thune asked Becerra how he could assure the American public that he will not fixate on abortion issues “when we got all these public health issues to deal with.”
Thune specifically referred to Becerra’s strong support for abortion as California attorney general, such as Becerra’s 2017 lawsuit against the Trump administration that sought to reimpose an Obama-era mandate forcing insurance providers to provide contraceptives. The Catholic Little Sisters of the Poor had fought the mandate, resulting in a lawsuit by the state of California.

Republican members on the House Oversight Committee are calling on Democratic Chairwoman Rep. Carolyn Maloney to subpoena Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to testify about the nursing home scandal, according to a copy of the letter obtained by Fox News.
Ranking Republican Kentucky Rep. James Comer and all Republicans on the panel sent the letter to Maloney demanding she subpoena Cuomo so that the committee may “hear the truth, under oath, directly from Governor Cuomo,” according to Fox News.
Republicans alleged Cuomo intentionally “engaged in a cover-up effecting those most vulnerable to COVID-19,” according to the report.

President Joe Biden’s nominee for CIA director spoke candidly on Wednesday about the Chinese government’s authoritarian bent, and its use of front groups to influence U.S. policy towards Beijing.
William Burns also faced questions about his tenure at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, which had a relationship with one of the Chinese government front groups.
Burns told the Senate Intelligence Committee that shortly after he took over at Carnegie in 2015, he severed ties with the China-U.S. Exchange Foundation due to “expansion of Chinese influence operations.”
