eBev secures $2m Series A funding to accelerate growth

Sydney-based eBev, which claims to be Australia’s largest independent online beverage ordering platform and financing service for the beverage trade, has raised $2 million in a Series A funding round led by major institutional investor, Artesian VC.
CEO of eBev Ian Harris said, “The huge hit by COVID to the On-Premise beverage market on both the Venue and supplier side cannot be understated”.
“eBev Trade will assist businesses get back on their feet quicker with improved cash flow and limited risk in selling to venues who are themselves struggling to get back to normal trading. Our platform offers tangible benefits to both sides of the beverage trade, with the further investment we now have the runway for our platform to really benefit the Beverage Trade community.”

Showdown on piece rate pay

Sixteen farmers have reportedly been ordered to prove they’re paying their workers correctly, as piece rates come under scrutiny last week, according to
The Weekly Times.
A Fair Work Commission hearing into horticulture piece rates could spell the end of the contentious payment method should the Australian Workers Union get its way.
The hearing is calling on the commission to amend the horticulture award to set a floor rate for pieceworkers, so every fruit and vegetable picker is guaranteed at least the minimum wage.

UK exports strong in wake of China tariffs

Australian wine exports during 2020–21 declined by 10 per cent in value to $2.56 billion, compared with the previous financial year, while export volume declined by 5% to 695 million litres (77 million 9-litre case equivalents), according to Wine Australia’s latest Export Report.
The average price per litre for wine exports declined by 5% to $3.69 free on board (FOB).
Wine Australia general manager corporate affairs and regulation Rachel Triggs said the key factors in the declines were the downturn in exports to mainland China following the imposition of tariffs and the cumulative effects of three consecutive lower vintages in 2018, 2019 and 2020 which meant there was less wine available to export.
