Sea Services: More Assertive Posture Against China Will Require Presence, Strong Alliances

The U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard say they need to begin acting more assertively to push back against gray-zone operations China is already conducting today. That means having more forward forces to deter, to document malign behaviors and to support partners as they protect their territory, according to service leaders.

Tamaqua area Navy commander finishes latest deployment [Standard-Speaker, Hazleton, Pa.]
Dec. 13 A Tamaqua area native is captain of a guided missile destroyer that recently spent almost eight months on-station in the Yellow, East and South China seas.
And while his assignment took him half a world away, Cmdr. Chad Trubilla keeps his hometown on his mind.
“No one achieves alone, and stretching as far back to my days as a student-athlete in Tamaqua, many people invested in me which continued through the Naval Academy and persists throughout my naval career,” Trubilla wrote in an email to the Standard-Speaker. “I alone may have command USS Rafael Peralta, but it was my family, friends, teachers, coaches, townspeople, and shipmates who share in the achievement.”

Several ships are conducting search and rescue operations off Southern California after a possible man-overboard situation onboard aircraft carrier USS

U.S. 3rd Fleet announced tonight that
TR “initiated search and rescue procedures after a lookout spotted what appeared to be a person in the water. Three search and rescue helicopters and a Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat were launched in response, and one Sailor was unaccounted for during a command-wide muster.”
