Nagaraju said the Government should conduct a thorough study on how to standardise the prices of essential items between the peninsula, Sabah and Sarawak because the various programmes carried out had not been effective. Meanwhile, residents in Ba’Kelalan, Sarawak, have not raised complaints on the increase in the prices of essential goods since the programme was implemented by the Government in 2009.

The Finance Division announced a hike of Rs3.20 per litre in the price of petrol and an increase of Rs2.95 per litre for highspeed diesel. Meanwhile, the price of kerosene oil went up by Rs3 per litre and light diesel oil became costlier by Rs4.42 per litre. Despite the increase, the government claimed that it did not pass on the full impact of global oil prices and the exchange rate to the general public as recommended by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra).
