The president said this on Tuesday at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa while inaugurating the Integrated Gas Handling Facility and LPG Processing and Dispensing Plants. The plant was built and operated by the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, an Upstream Subsidiary of NNPC in Oredo, Edo. x According to him, the Oredo Integrated Gas Handling Facility and its associated NGLs depot will be delivering 240,000 metric tons of commercial grades Liquefied Petroleum Gas and Propane.

Information available to Energy Vanguard showed that domestic supply stood at about 793,000 metric tonnes, MT in the first 11 (January-November) months of 2020, an increase of 34.7 per cent when compared to 588,890MT recorded in the corresponding period of 2019. According to data obtained from the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, PPPRA, weekend, the 11 months trend analysis from January 1, 2020, to November 31, 2020, indicated that the supply increased by 204,110MT during the period under review.

Amir Malik, a resident of a private housing society, said “The dealers were selling LPG at Rs140 per kilogramme but now they are selling it at Rs200 without any permission from the government.” “When I argued the dealer said the people should be satisfied if they were getting LPG otherwise its shortage could create a crisis at any point in the coming days,” he said Abdul Qayyum, a local shopkeeper, said “I run a general store but I also sell LGP to earn some money. The dealers were providing us LPG at Rs135 per kilogramme few days back. Now they have increased their rates up to Rs170 so how can I sell it at previous prices.”

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the President spoke at the inauguration of the Integrated Gas Handling Facility and LPG Processing and Dispensing Plants built and operated by the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, an Upstream Subsidiary of NNPC in Oredo, Edo State. The statement was titled “We are getting closer to self-sufficiency in liquefied petroleum gas production, says President Buhari as he commissions processing and dispensing plants.”
