I am tired after several arduously emotional days. So tonight a rerun of an older post. It is a fascinating story because it has to deal with the amazing courage of the sailors serving in the United States Navy and the determination of President Thomas Jefferson to ensure the freedom of United States and other citizens plying the seas of the Mediterranean Sea from the North African Pasha’s and their raiding fleets of marauding pirates who captures ships from many nations and extorted ransom for their crews. Interestingly it was the young United States that decided to ensure the freedom of the seas for everyone. This is the story of one of the most incredible exploits of that campaign.
Feb. 16—Many area churches plan to go ahead with their observance of Ash Wednesday, the first observance of that tradition since COVID-19 required social distancing. Ash Wednesday starts the 40 days of the Lenten season, a time of moderation and abstaining for some Christian denominations to commemorate Jesus wandering the desert for 40 days. Churches are continuing their Ash Wednesday .

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - A group of students from the University of Southern Mississippi is helping a local church continue its tradition of singing songs during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Many senior adults in church choirs around the country stopped their participation as the pandemic started to become serious - such was the case with Trinity Episcopal Churchâs choir.
