In Memoriam: Istvan Dioszegi

Istvan Dioszegi in 2014. Istvan Dioszegi, a physicist in Brookhaven National Laboratory’s Nonproliferation & National Security (NNS) Department, died on Sept. 29, 2018. He was 64. Dioszegi was active in experimental nuclear physics for more than three decades. “One of the things I was most impressed by was the fact that he had to check everything,” said retired NNS physicist Peter Vanier. “He didn’t take anything at face value. Anything that anybody claimed, he’d go and check it himself and make sure that he believed in it. I think that’s a mark of a good scientist.” This tendency carried the group’s work forward and his mathematical modeling made it more rigorous, Vanier said.
